Biography - Experience/Central America
In 1986, Mark Madsen received his first invitation to travel to Central America; by 1988 he was involved in that region full time. Mark traveled extensively in Central America during these Cold War years, working in the field -- often in harms way -- and in Washington, to support freedom fighters and to bring down tyrannical socialist governments in the region. During this time he was called to testify before Congress regarding events and conditions in Panama prior to Operation Just Cause. In the aftermath of political upheaval Mark stayed on to help the people establish new government institutions and to train them in the practice of democracy and the rule of law.
